Description

The Director for Communications reports to the Systems President, and serves as the System and Baton Rouge campus chief communicator on all media-related matters that pertain to the System and SUBR. The Director is also a liaison to the System’s five campuses communications personnel. The Director is primarily responsible for ensuring that all communiques portray the mission and vision of the Southern University System and SUBR. Position is responsible directing the efforts of the Office of Communications office staff and for the development, implementation, execution, and management of public relations, marketing communications, and media relations.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops branding and engagement initiatives and internal communications and external media relations policies and strategies.
  • Develops overall communications and publications strategy for enhancement of regional and national visibility and reputation.
  • Determines appropriate strategies for SUS messaging, to include follow-up and coordination with appropriate internal and external agencies.
  • Responds to media inquiries, prepares press releases, internal and external news wires, schedules press conferences.
  • Develops and manages the development and execution of promotional materials in conjunction with the various university offices.
  • Develops, budgets, designs, and coordinates promotional collateral efforts including, but not limited to, brochures, publications, newsletters, and videos.
  • Develops and maintains files of resource materials and samples to assist in idea development and effective college communication vehicles.
  • Oversees all electronic communications including email blasts and internal/external newsletters.
  • Assists department in developing targeted promotional materials.
  • Develops story ideas and communications strategies to ensure widespread coverage of all newsworthy stories including events, awards, and people of interests.
  • Strategizes and manages the University's social networking initiatives.
  • Qualifications

    Minimal Qualifications :

    Education :

    Interested candidates must have earned a bachelor’s (Master’s preferred).

    Experience :

    5 years of experience in communication management or public relations.
