Description

The Department of Urban Forestry and Natural Resources at Southern University A & M College seeks to fill a 9-month tenure-track faculty position in GIS and Hydrology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful applicant will be expected to (1) develop and teach foundation and applied courses and labs at undergraduate and graduate levels in GIS, remote sensing, hydrology, urban watershed management, and geospatial sciences to strengthen the urban forestry curriculum for BS, MS, and PhD programs and graduate certificate program in GIS application in urban forest and natural resources management, (2) obtain external teaching and research funding that will involve both undergraduate and graduate students, (3) advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, (4) commit to excellence in teaching, research and service. Summer research appointment will be available through SUAREC for the first year to ensure the candidate an opportunity to apply for external funding.

Qualifications

Minimal Qualifications :

Candidates must have an earned doctorate from an accredited university with specialization in GIS and Hydrology and with at least one graduate degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, or a closely related area. Candidates should demonstrate: (1) a strong commitment to teaching, student advisement and recruitment, (2) ability to secure grants and manage a competitive research program and evidence of peer reviewed publication record; (3) professional service and outreach and leadership skills in GIS/ Hydrology related to forestry and urban forestry areas, (4) excellent communication, interpersonal, and organization skills. Candidates are encouraged to highlight skills and experiences that demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
